Description: | Grand Re-opening of the Masaryk University Observatory that has undergone general reconstruction since August 2007. |
Astrophysics Division organised grand re-opening of the Masaryk University Observatory after its general reconstruction. The event started at 3pm with attendance of the following VIPs:
The observatory dome building has undergone complex reconstruction since August 2007. The reconstruction involved complete rebuilding of the old bathroom and replacement of the roof covering; however, the main point was replacement of the old malfunctioning iron dome. The brand new light wooden dome with titanium zinc (RHEINZINK®) covering is a masterpiece of civil engineering. It is driven by set of computer controlled stepper motors what makes the facility capable of full remote operation. Opening new technological frontiers to our students and staff members can significantly enhance educational and scientific potential of the observatory and the university as whole. |
